U.S. Department of Labor Awards Goodwill $7.3 Million for Green Jobs

Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis announced today that Goodwill Industries International will receive a $7.3 million grant as part of “Pathways Out of Poverty,” a funding opportunity authorized by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Recovery Act). The grant will provide funds to create green job training programs as a strategy to move individuals out of poverty and into economic self-sufficiency. The funding is part of a $150 million grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Labor to 38 entities.

Goodwill to Help Mentor Teens through GoodGuides® Program

Goodwill Industries International is proud to launch a new program designed to assist youth in overcoming disadvantages and plan careers. The national youth mentoring program — known as Goodwill GoodGuides™ — will help teens finish school and transition into productive careers, with the guidance of trusted adults.

Goodwill Partners with WE tv's WE Volunteer Initiative

Goodwill Industries International has joined forces with WE tv to invite women across the country to volunteer in their local communities. From now until January 31, women are encouraged to “PLEDGE 24 in 2010” by logging onto WEVolunteer.tv and participating in 24 hours of volunteer work in 2010 with the organization or nonprofit of their choice. Goodwill Industries International and its affiliate members are just one of the nonprofit organizations working with WE tv to increase awareness and participation for the program.

Goizueta Foundation Awards Goodwill Financial Education and Youth Development Grant

The Goizueta Foundation has awarded Goodwill Industries International a grant valued at $2,055,084 to develop employment and education initiatives in Hispanic communities in the state of Georgia. The grant will be funded over a three-year period.

Goodwill and Dell Expand Free Computer Recycling Programs

To make it even more convenient for consumers to recycle their unwanted computer equipment, Goodwill Industries International and Dell have added 445 more ReConnect donation sites to their collection network. The additional sites, located in Arizona, Georgia, Maryland, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Tennessee, bring the number of Goodwill stores participating in ReConnect to more than 1,900 nationwide.
